Re-imaging our Mission and Spirit Amid the Complexities of Life Today

    October 5, 2025November 17, 2025

Our Mission & Charism

As women religious, we, Sisters of the Good Shepherd, express our charism of merciful love through an apostolic life or a contemplative life. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, has called us to live in union with him and continue his redemptive mission in the Church.

As apostolic sisters, we announce the message of reconciliation through a ministry of charity and evangelization directed towards persons wounded by sin and its consequences.

As Contemplative Sisters, we witness to the absolute primacy of God and seek to be a means of reconciliation by our prayer, gospel asceticism, solitude and silence.

PROVINCE DIRECTION 2020-2026

In the face of the decline in the number of sisters and few religious vocations in the province but blessed with committed lay partners in mission, we are called to explore innovative ways so that our charism and mission continue to be responsive to the changes in society.

The present climate emergency crisis, more complex forms of violence against women and children, state repression and unabated human rights violations call us to a prophetic response. We hear the cry of the poor and of Mother Earth.

We open ourselves to God’s transforming love in order to witness to the Good Shepherd spirituality in community and mission.

Safeguarding

“The Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (hereinafter “Congregation”) has a mission that promotes the dignity and integral development of every person. For close to four hundred years, the Congregation has provided ministries to protect, care and empower girls, women and children who have faced conditions of violence, discrimination, poverty and other forms of social exclusion and personal vulnerability. Inspired by the mercy and love of God, the Congregation has applied the best knowledge of each era to deliver such ministries, finding effective and creative ways to support the value of the human person in very diverse social contexts. Human dignity, spiritual reconciliation and the inherent human rights of each member of the human family have always been at the center of our communities and ministries.”
